CBSE to hone students' English speaking ability

July 7, 2014

Allahabad : Giving more teeth to the reformatory approach for assessment of students' competency in English language, Central Board of Secondary Education ( CBSE) had introduced Assessment of Speaking Listening Skills (ASL) project in classes 9 and 11. It is expected to assess students' potentiality and his or her capability to perform better.

As part of the initiative, all the heads of the schools have been asked to record the assessment process of students in its entirety so as to monitor, provide guidance and feedback for training and other communications at later stage. The recordings would be kept safe for six months after the assessment.

A circular issued in this regard states that teachers have been asked to discourage rote learning, instead they have been asked to encourage students in pairs to tackle different topics with greater depth to avoid repetition of ideas and promote higher standards of preparation.
