Chandigarh: Education dept fails to mention govt school topper

May 30, 2014

The UT education department forgot to mention its Class XII topper from government schools, disappointing the student.

Results were declared by the Central Board for Secondary Education at 11am on Wednesday and released by the education department at 8pm. However, it still missed mentioning its highest scorer.

Ritwick Chaudhry, a student of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37, scored 97.6% marks in science. However, when his result was compared with other names on the list sent by the education department, he turned out to be the best scorer in all government schools, not just in science, but across streams.

Talking to TOI, Ritwick said, "I had worked so hard and I think I deserved a mention. I am very disappointed with the department."

His father Ravinder added, "This goof up is even more disappointing for him as earlier when the AIEEE result was announced, where he stood fifth, his name had not been highlighted by the media. Someone who scored less than him had, though, been mentioned."

"In this tech-savvy world, it takes a minute to download the result from CBSE website. Even though the result was announced in the morning, the department circulated an incomplete list. This is disappointing," Ravinder added.

Kamlesh Kumar Bhadoo, director public instructions (schools), said, "We will revisit the data and necessary corrections will be made. We will not let the boy feel disheartened as we know that he deserves to be highlighted."
