With more than 25 vice-chancellors, deans and directors of institutes from all over India, a national meet to evolve a set of concrete recommendations on innovation and work plan for research will begin at Panjab University (PU) today. In the two-day meet, participants will deliberate upon modalities of how research can be strengthened and further facilitated in Indian universities. All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) chairman S S Mantha will deliver the inaugural address of the meet. Former PU VC R P Bambah will give the presidential remarks at the inaugural session. The "National Discussion Meet on Research: New Innovation and Work Plan" follows the nationwide webcast by University Grants Commission chairman Ved Prakash on the topic of 'Impetus to Research in Indian Universities: Strategic Planning and Work Plan' on August 14. Besides VCs, participants include National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) chairperson Santosh Panda, Medical Council of India president Jayshreeben Mehta, Rehabilitation Council of India chairperson Sudesh Mukhopadhyay, Association of Indian Universities secretary general Furqan Qamar and Observer Research Foundation senior faculty Leena Chandran Wadia.
