Jadavpur University, one of the most prestigious universities of Kolkata that was much in news over molestation cases that took place at the university premises, announced that it will begin a B-School which would award post graduate degrees to students from the 2015 academic session. A new law school is also on the cards which would be on the lines of the national law schools that are functioning all over the country. The groundwork for opening both the B-school and the Law school are underway. Institutions like IIM Calcutta, XLRI, Jamshedpur and XIM Bhubaneshwar have been contacted to contribute towards the framework. Similarly, for the law school, JU is in touch with the National University for Juridical Sciences (NUJS). Interim vice chancellor of JU, Abhijit Chakraborty, who is about to take up his position as the full time VC of the university confirmed this. "We did have a few management programmes but they were not full scale MBA programmes like the IIMs have. The university will now initiate a full-fledged two year management programme which would provide MBA degrees to students who are willing to take up management as their career option. The National Instruments Laboratory campus just opposite the main Jadavpur Campus would house both the B-school and law school, which was lying vacant for quite a few years. While JU will go ahead with its plans for setting up the B-school immediately, the law school will have to wait till the 2016 academic session.
