“No deficient deemed university to be allowed to function without verification”, says SC to UGCSeptember 25, 2014
Supreme Court today put conditions on the functioning of 41 deemed universities, questioning University Grants Commission’s hurry to allow them to start operations.
"The universities cannot be allowed to operate without physical verification of their infrastructure and teaching faculty strength," the apex court said.
These 41 deemed universities were found deficient in 2009 but the UGC appeared to be in a hurry to allow majority of them to start operations.
SC took umbrage to UGC's hurry and said not a single deficient deemed university would be allowed to function without fresh physical verification of their infrastructure and faculty.
The top court posted the matter for September 26 to get government and UGC view on fresh verification of 41 deemed universities.
