Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani declared various plans to provide quality education for all, on September 11. Some of them are Padhe Bharat Badhe Bharat, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Abhiyaan, Campus Connect, and SWAYAM.
In conversation with Niti Central, education strategist Meeta Sengupta says that it is a great start as country’s education sector has been waiting for these schemes and announcements to become a reality.
She adds that a national education strategy doesn’t necessarily have to be about employment. Education is about growing society, it’s about investing in the future. But given our country’s demographic pressure, we will have to adopt an education strategy that gives us more employability. The Government, while formulating such schemes to facilitate quality education for one and all, needs to provide oversight not necessarily run operations. A national education strategy will energise entire nation and encourage all to participate in nation building.
