The right wing Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad is all set to impress the northeast students by promising a canteen that will serve delicacies from the region in the Delhi University if it wins the Delhi University Students’ Union polls.
The ABVP has promised several sops for the students from the Northeast in its manifesto for the Dusu polls.
It has promised effective working of N-E cells in all the colleges and frequent meetings of the nodal officers to help end racial discrimination. The body also promised proper accommodation for all the students from the Northeast and immediate construction of separate hostels for
boys and girls.
“We press for opening of a canteen serving Northeast India’s delicacies in the campus. We also ask the university authority to arrange special programmes to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the region,” said Delhi ABVP secretary Saket Bahuguna after releasing the manifesto. He also promised that the ABVP will request Union HRD ministry to incorporate N-E culture in the NCERT curriculum.
The ABVP claimed that these efforts will bring Northeast students closer to others in the campus and the city. “We will work on bringing a sense of inclusion and security among our brothers from eastern part of the country,” Mr Bahuguna added. The ABVP promises restructuring of science courses, permanent appointment of teachers, e-library and round-the-clock availability of Central Science Library and Central Reference Library. It also promised to work for fees rebate for physically and visually-challenged students.
