Teacher’s Day Special: President and PM greet teachers across IndiaSeptember 5, 2014
Radhakrishnan – the first Vice President of India and the second President of India. Shri Pranab Mukherjee, the reigning President of India, has greeted teachers throughout the country on this occasion.
In his Teacher’s Day message, President Mukherjee said, “On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, I have great pleasure in extending my greetings and felicitations to teachers throughout the country.”
He further said that the teachers must be ‘friends, philosophers and guiding lights’ to students. Pranab compared teachers to candles who burn brightly to enlighten others.
India is a country of saints, seers and gurus who have been known to nurture minds of young students and shape their intellect selflessly. On their end, students have also been known to be devoted to their teachers and show them utmost respect. Continuing with the sacred tradition, President hoped that teaches will dedicate themselves to serve their students and help them imbibe knowledge as well as essential values of the civilization.
President Pranab Mukherjee also thanked the entire teaching community of India for its immense contribution to the nation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be delivering Teacher’s Day address at 3 pm today, has also extended greetings to all the teachers. He said, “We salute all teachers, who tirelessly light the lamp of knowledge.” Paying tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, PM Modi said, “Teacher, scholar and statesman, he remains an inspiration for the entire Nation.”
