CAT 2014: You can now apply to 19 IIMs

CAT 2014 registration online is on its way and aspirants can now breathe easy as not only the duration of the exam has been increased but also their chances of getting admissions to an IIM have increased too.

CAT 2014 Registration video available at the official website says aspirants can now apply to 19 IIMs. These new Indian Institutes of Management will be launched in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Punjab from academic session 2015-16.

"You can also apply for the post graduate programme in the proposed new six IIMs," states the video.

At present, there are 13 IIMs in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Lucknow, Kozhikode, Indore, Shillong, Tiruchirappalli, Raipur, Udaipur, Rohtak, Ranchi and Kashipur. In Budget 2014, Arun Jaitley proposed five new IIMs.

However, the number was later increased to six.

As per the latest update on CAT 2014 website, "In accordance with the Government of India's directive it is herby informed that six new IIMs are planned to commence their academic session from 2015-16. Hence, if you are interested to apply in the PGPs of any/all the following IIMs are advised to indicate the same in the given boxes."

The equating/scaling process will be announced prior to CAT 2014 examination - November 16 and 22, 2014 - to avoid confusion among the aspirants.
