Howrah : Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani today declared that the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University (RKMVU) would be accorded the status of a "special heritage university."
Irani, who attended the ninth convocation of the RKMVU, said the Union HRD ministry would give the university the status of a "special heritage university".
Irani said Swami Vivekananda was in favour of science education and research and wanted to set up such an institute.
The Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University was established to actualise Swami Vivekananda's fundamental educational idea of imparting character-building education to students by combining the best of the East and the West.
Earlier, Irani visited Belur Math, the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission which was set up by Swami Vivekananda.
The Ramakrishna Math and the Mission together have 178 branches across India and the world. (PTI)
