New delhi : Delhi University admissions have come to a halt. Despite a controversial scenario regarding the Four Year Undergraduate Programmes (FYUP), the total number of students, applying for admissions did not get affected adversely. According to official data, 274,381 forms were received by the University till 6 pm on June 16, Monday, which has surpassed the previous record of 254,339 forms.
The maximum applications came in for English courses. A total of 71, 359 forms have been filled for a meager 4,362 seats in English. Many students feel that an undergraduate degree in English opens up many fields for them unlike other courses which limit career choices. This could be one possible reason for a heavy flood of English applications.
This has been followed by Mathematics courses, for which 67, 636 application forms were filled. On the third number stands Chemistry wherein 64, 951 applications came in. The chart has been further followed by Computer Sciences and Physics that consisted of 60, 963 and 60, 956 applications respectively.

Interestingly, Economics - which has been maintaining the highest cutoffs among all subjects for a few years has received just 52, 416 applications this year. Last year, Economics had 63,389 applications and Commerce had 59,978. And commerce has received only 50, 345 applications.
With an option of online applications coming into being, a number of students were seen preferring it over offline mode. (Source-India today)
