Delhi University's management studies to have no entrance test

May 12, 2014

New Delhi : Doing away with most of the entrance exams, Delhi University decided that admission to bachelor with honours in management studies (BMS) will be based on Class XII marks and personal interview in the 2014-15 admission session. BMS was introduced in 2013-14 as the first undergraduate course under Faculty of Management Studies to be offered in six colleges. This new non-technical professional course's admission process will start along with the rest of the undergraduate courses of the university from June 2, 2014.

Delhi University in 2013-14 decided to do away with Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS), Bachelor of Financial Investment and Analysis (BFIA) and BA (honours) Business Economics (BBE). It introduced a new course, BMS, as part of the four-year undergraduate programme. Like the BBS, BFIA and BBE, BMS admissions were also conducted via entrance and interview. But the university faced a lot of criticism over errors in question papers, with the students dragging FMS to court.

One of the reasons for doing away with the entrance test, according to FMS sources, is the failure of FMS to conduct it smoothly. More than 16,000 candidates appeared for the entrance test. Faculty of Management Studies uploaded the answer keys 20 days after declaration of results. Questions were raised on the veracity of the answer keys and students filed a writ petition in Delhi high court.

According to DU sources, the admission for BMS will now be conducted based on Class XII marks which will be given 85% weightage. There will be 15% weightage on personal interview. There will be 840 seats across the six colleges—Sukhdev College of Business Studies, Deen Dyal Upadhyaya, Keshav Mahavidyalaya, Maharaja Agrasen College, College of Vocational Studies and B R Ambedkar. Around 2,500 candidates will be invited for interview. All interviews are to be conducted in the North Campus and there will be 12 interview boards.
