DU UG admissions process begins on June 2

May 7, 2014

New Delhi : The Delhi University (DU) will start the process for admission to its under graduate courses for academic year 2014-15 on June 2. Students who have cleared their class 12 board exams and are interested in pursuing UG programmes in Delhi University have to apply for any of the courses offered by June 16, reported a daily.

The colleges affiliated to the university will bring out five cutoff lists for the general category and the first list will be out on June 24, the day admissions begin. Students can opt for colleges of their choice in the application form, a provision reintroduced in the centralised admission system. Candidates can also apply for any college and there will be no cap on the colleges a candidate can choose.

DU sources said there will be no entrance test for non-professional courses like English and admissions will be based on cutoff.

CBSE results are expected any time in May. State boards like Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Nagaland and Himachal Pradesh has already declared their class 12.

As per Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) officials, this year 2,91,414 candidates have registered for the class XII board examinations, which is 30,000 more compared to the last year hinting at cutoffs going higher.

Seats in some colleges had remained vacant last year even after the 10th cutoff list was announced. This year onwards the varsity has shortened the process from that of last year as it has introduced the four-year-undergraduate programme. The number of cutoffs for general candidates has been curtailed to five.

Admissions to general category candidates may end by July 10, the last day of admissions for the fifth cutoff or earlier based on availability of seats in colleges till the last list. Three days have been given for admissions under each cutoff list and the candidates must complete the enrolment process within this period.

Candidates can apply both online and offline. With the introduction of centralised admission process, there will be no sale of forms in individual colleges, except for those candidates applying under sports and extracurricular activities categories.
