Mizoram to have its first Medical College

Aizawl : Mizoram minister of state for Health Lal Thanzara said the state government and the Centre has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for establishment of the state's first Medical College.

Addressing the annual conference of the Mizoram Government Doctors' Association (MGDA), Thanzara said Mizoram would soon have a medical college and the Civil Hospital in Aizawl would be upgraded with Rs 45 crore, while a multi-disciplinary research unit would be established at Falkawn near Aizawl.,according to news report.

The Central Government bore 90 per cent of the expenditure amounting to Rs.198 crore which has already been cleared, while the State Government will pay for the rest.

A total of nine medical colleges are available in the neighboring states of Manipur, Tripura and Assam.
